For every Pokemon as frequent as Zubat, there exists a species as sparse as Drifloon. Whether your quest is to catch anything and everything, or you simply seek to complete your Sinnoh Dex to unlock some of the game's best features, some key knowledge is necessary in order to find Drifloon in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.
Drifloon gets its name by combining the words "drift" with "balloon." As with any drifter, and indeed, every balloon, knowing when and where to catch this upstart is of utmost importance. Let our research guide you.
What Kind Of Pokemon Is Drifloon?
Drifloon's a sentient purple balloon. No, seriously, that's the long and short of it. It has stringy little arms with cute yellow hearts instead of hands, and according to several of its Pokedex entries, it's been known to steal children. So, that's a thing.
Drifloon evolves into Drifblim at level 28. Drifblim's decent Speed and Special Attack can make it a viable member of any in-game party, and while it's not exactly a modern competitive menace like Cinderace and Galarian Darmititan, it should prove useful enough going up against other trainers in Pokemon BDSP's meta.
Where To Find Drifloon In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
The easy answer is that Drifloon can be found at Valley Windworks. But if we were to leave you with that single nugget of information, this would be a poor excuse for a guide.
Far more important than its location are the requirements necessary for Drifloon to spawn. The first thing you need to do is complete the story events at Valley Windworks by going up against a few Team Galactic grunts followed by Commander Mars.
The battle against Mars can be a bit of a pain to win; her Zubat is as useful as any Zubat (read: not at all) but her Purugly is impressively tanky. A fighting Pokemon like Monferno or Machop will save you a headache here.
When Does Drifloon Appear Outside Valley Windworks?
Once Team Galactic pulls out from the Valley Windworks, the owner's daughter will vaguely mention the likelihood that "the balloon Pokemon" will return. What she doesn't tell you is when exactly that's supposed to happen, leaving plenty of players scratching their heads and wishing little kids were more forthcoming.
Drifloon only hangs out at Valley Windworks on Friday. We can't speak to whatever it's doing during those other six days a week, because Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl never deign to answer that question. In addition to the Friday part, you'll also want to take into consideration the exact time of day that Drifloon appears.
It's a pretty comfortable window. From 10 am until 7:59 pm, the purple wanderer lingers just outside the Valley Windworks. If, for one reason or another, that falls outside your own personal availability window, don't feel bad about temporarily altering your Switch's clock to accommodate you.
Don't worry, MultiVersus is more Ultimate than Brawl.
